Brock Lesnar appeared on the finale of WWE SmackDown this week after being knocked out of the arena earlier in the evening.
As noted, Lesnar abruptly left TD Garden in Boston on Friday evening after Vince McMahon’s retirement became public. WWE announced Lesnar’s participation in the show one week in advance, and it was later reported that he was scheduled to open the episode and then “end” the show entirely. However, WWE pulled Lesnar from all previews and rosters of SmackDown as soon as news of his exit from SmackDown surfaced. Lesnar was still back at TD Garden until 7 PM ET, but WWE officials were trying to convince him to come back. It was also reported that WWE had a SummerSlam replacement for Lesnar in mind, if needed.
Word is that Lesnar went off the record to show his support for Vince. Lesnar reportedly said something about the “if he goes, I’ll go” effect upon leaving after McMahon’s retirement was announced.
In the update, a new report from combat choice He notes that a source described the situation as “exaggerated.” It was noted that things “exploded” and Lesnar returned to the stage for the closing segment of the show.
WWE ingeniously ended up rewriting the SmackDown script and Lesnar’s new script never appeared. The rundown backstage paper was released shortly before the show hit the air and doesn’t mention Lesnar. However, WWE left the latter part open in a way that Lesnar could get in if he returns.
A new update from PWInsider indicates that Lesnar was scheduled to leave the ring immediately to return home via his private jet after appearing in the opening segment of Friday’s SmackDown. There’s no word yet on where Lesnar went after leaving the arena, or how close he was to getting home, but we’ll keep you posted. It will be interesting to see why Lesnar returns to the scene for the show’s closing appearance.
The SmackDown main event saw The Street Profits, Madcap Moss Theory, and WWE’s undisputed champions The Usos defeat by disqualification. The end of the match came after Theory tried out on The Usos, but they turned on him and then got knocked out. The theory eventually used his Money In the Bank briefcase on Moss for DQ. After the bell, theory was interrupted and she continued to hit Moose with his purse.
The attack continued until Lesnar’s music hit and he made his way to the ring when the crowd broke out. Lesnar smiled as he chased after the ring. Theory carried his Money In the Bank briefcase, but Lesnar charged and kicked him to bring him down. Then Lesnar dropped Theory with the F5, and worked with him on hard bag shots to keep him down. Lesnar lifted the bag to a big pop from the crowd, then dropped it and blasted the theory at it with an F5. Then the monster raised the bag in the air and smiled at the crowd before entering.
Lesnar is still scheduled to challenge WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam on July 30.
