The Secret Service has identified possible missing text messages on the phones of 10 customers that were sent and received on January 6, 2021, CNN says the report.
The agency found itself at the center of a political storm after it was revealed that text messages had been deleted from their phones in the wake of the Capitol attack, which they said was due to a previously planned agency-wide phone reset and hardware replacement.
CNN, citing two unnamed sources, said Secret Service investigators are now investigating phones containing metadata showing that messages were sent and received on or around the day of the riots in and around the Capitol.
Investigators are working to determine whether the content of the 10 agents’ text messages contained relevant information that should have been preserved, the outlet reported.
